To avoid the tax man.
I own a lawn and tree care company, that also does holiday lights.
I have two climbers and an old 60ft utility bucket truck. I also have a good chipper and chip truck.
Our market is small 40,000 population and I mostly do residential pruning and removals.
Our current bucket truck is garbage, and I only use it about once per week. I would replace it if I could find a good rear mount flatbed with an over-center lift for $75,000 or less. The problem is, I CAN'T find one! I have located a different type of lift, its a slightly used mini track lift (reachmaster ll76) that intrigues me.
My question is, for a small tree company that plans on expanding, would you invest in a mini track lift or a bucket truck?
I am not a certified Arborist, I employ 2 certified Arborists, the trees in my area are not generally that tall, once a week we encounter work that a bucket or man lift would be useful. I like the idea of having a nice bucket truck for image, but I like the idea of getting a mini lift into the back yards.
Thoughts? What would you do if you had $75,000 to spend on tree equipment, and you already had a nice chip truck and chipper?
