I don't always want a bigger saw, but when I do, it's a Husqvarna 395xp.

If I were wanting a husky 390, I'd get a Jonsered 2188.

Ah, a torque freak, like myself. I prefer mechanical inline turbo diesels over anything else really. Life starts at 1,000ft-lbs :)

That's a little off topic...

Here's my 394 which is stock. It's real nice being able to lean on it. For some reason that's what makes me giggle. As with most things, it's much more exciting in person. :msp_thumbup:

I agree. Though not mechanical my DD is an inline twin turbo diesel that is well over 1,000ftlbs.

What kind of wood was that?

It looked pretty impressive to me. Would love to see one of those ported, guess I will head off to youtube to see what I can dig up...

Guess I should finish my DD. Need to build a tranny still

It was white oak/water oak.

Nice!

I wish mine was that clean under the hood. I run a 6spd so I only need a big fancy clutch, not a full billet auto.

Look at me derailing my own thread :bang:

When I have a 390 around the 372 sit because the extra power is worth the small weight penalty.

Compound turbos with a 12 valve. Nothing better really:beer:

Even stock they aren't that bad. Last night I was coming home late from the airport when some kid in a ricer starts revving his engine at the stoplight. I don't know if he did anything other then remove the muffler to the car but I figured the db probably wasn't bright enough to figure that a stock 2500 cummins in 4wd would likely shame him given that it was raining. Yup, sure enough he was a several car lengths back by the time I hit 60.

But back to saws that will make you giggle. I figure out some point if what you are really after is akin to a race saw, then that's what you should build. I think everyone needs to do a wildly ported and piped 80cc or larger saw. At the end of the day you'll conclude there really is something as too heavy, too loud, too many vibes and poor balance. Some times you just have to go too far to appreciate a well balanced and designed package.

Following up with this after some more trigger time with the 372.

Since this post I have ran the 372 for a couple more tanks. It now has exactly 2.9 hours of run time on it. After the thread started I put a 20" B&C on with an 8 pin and that did impress me. I noodled several red oak rounds approximately 24" long and 30" across so the bar could not have been any more buried. Since then I have ran it with the 24" B&C (full comp) and it seems to get stronger and stronger every time I shut it off and crank it back up.

I wonder if the motor was just that tight after the rebuild? Or if my expectations have become more realistic?

Either way I am really likeling this saw. I would love to get a light weight 24" for it as the stihl ES bar seems a bit nose heavy but I may go for a techlite 28" and run skip chain.

Make no mistake I still want a 390/660ish class saw but I think this one is here to stay. Even if I picked up a 372xpw or a 7900 I would likely just keep a 24" on this saw and outfit the other with a 28.

If you really want grins and giggles that won't go away for awhile, just find someone that runs a bike saw. Something in about a 250cc class. There's a few down in your state.
Otherwise get a 395/066 type.
