Wow! I just got home from the shop (wife is upset because it is 11:00 here). I got engrossed with the tearing down of a junk Homelite 2100 that I bought from a walk in. This thing was trashed. I tore it down even though it was froze up because of the carburetor and a few usable parts.
As I tore into this thing I began to realize what all these guys (NON- Stihl) have been talking about. I can also see why they are no longer around in the form of the saws they use to be. This thing is built like a tank and the cylinder is like honey comb with all the transfer ports. I do not believe any saw manufacturer could build a machine like this and stay competitive price wise; not even with the over priced Stihls. The piston has a full 360 degree skirt and can see a lot of room for exhaust porting. If I can ever find one in better condition I believe I found my next toy to play with.
I have the Tillitson carburetor if anyone needs it. I think I can save the piston and cylinder. The rings are stuck right now but have it soaking in a penetrating oil bath and I will see if I can polish out the cylinder in the morning.
You know the funny thing about this saw is that I have never even ran one. After running other Homelite Wiz's and seeing how this thing is built I believe I might have been over looking some real gems.
