Hey guys. It's been a long time since the mills had any use. Used the mini mill today after taking down two pretty good sized spruces. Here are some pics of the wood cutting today.

Here are some of the spruce cant I did before I had to head home, I will have eight more just like it, 8' long, and about a 6' section of that ash tree that I saved for milling, that tree was mostly for firewood purposes. Can't believe the guy wanted these dropped, they were beautiful trees, even had a neighbor tell me that as they were chewing me a new one for cutting them down.

This is a pic from when I first made the mini-mill, I have since modified it at BobL's advice, the bar clamp is now tight to the guide so that the saw has its weight centered over the mill and allows for a much better cut. There is also a handle on it that I did not have on yet in that pic. I can't seem to find any others of it right now, you ought to see Jerry's mini-mill (820wards) that thing is a work of art.

I've been aching for it so bad that I have had trouble posting over here because I haven't had any input. Very glad to have these trees fall into my lap.

Jim,

Those were nice trees. They didn't look like they were endangering any buildings. Your mini-mill did a nice job on making a cant. Any plans for this wood?

I'm making a country bench from one of the Blue Oak trees I milled the other day. Spent all day sanding, now I have to attach the back rest to the bench portion. Only problem is the wife is pestering me to get her quilt hangers built. That's a Monday thing...

Thanks for the pictures, looked like a nice place to work on your cutting/milling.

is that the St. Lawrence river in the background ?

Thanks for the milling pics. Let us know how the spruce turns out and what you eventually use it for.

That is Pt. Solubrius on Lake Ontario. Going to turn some of it into 2x's and a lot of it is going to make siding for my woodshed. It felt great to mill again.

Those were great trees. I can't believe the guy wanted them cut down. The ash in the back was on a corner of the property as well as one of the spruces. It did not look it, but both of those spruces were leaners, not a ton, but enough to make taking them down a little harder. I had to rope both of them, one to keep it from dropping in the road and the other to keep it from hitting a roof on the other side of a hedgerow. I saved about 6' of that ash trunk, that one will go to make a table for the deck, a roofed deck that is.
