I have a Homelite 300 that I inherited, (not my only saw) that seems to run out of power very easily. It seemed to me that this saw should have more power. The other day I went to start it and the trigger wouldn't retract to its idle position. I opened up the handle and discovered that the cable to the throttle had slipped through the connection as the little screw was loose. As a consequence the throttle was not moving when the trigger was pulled. I adjusted the cable and tightened up the screw and fired her up. She seemed to rev higher than she has been running but I haven't had a chance to try it on any wood yet.
After all this and being mechanically inept I ask if it is possible to adjust the throttle mechanism too much and cause an over revving or does the throttle only open so far and the saw is made to run wide open in the cut? Also if the throttle has not been opening completely for some time would that cause the saw to sound right but not have power in the cut? By the way the exhaust screen is clean so no problem there. New chain.

I don't want to ruin the saw if for no other reason than it was handed down to me from my father. Thank you for any help

The throttle chould aloow the carb to open all the way. THe high speed mixture screw has control over max rpm.
