Hey all ,I found this site the other day and was very impressed with everything I read . I am a 31 year member of the union pipe trades . I lost my job last September after being with the same company for 15 years . I have been climbing for almost 20 years as a side line . My younger brother got me into it and I have maintained my gear and kept with it since . I was never formaly trained however I have learned alot from other people I know in the business etc. Most of the take downs I do come to me through word of mouth . This year even though I thought I might "retire "from climbing it turns out to be the one thing that has helped me make ends meet ! I bought a realy nice sawmill but getting going with that has been slow at best . My son has been my main ground man since he was 14 ,he is now 26 . I did spend 1 summer working for a company that had a state contract takeing down roadside trees and I had a bucket truck ,they were a flea bag outfit and not very good at what they were doing . Over the years I have removed some prity big trees in some real tight situations . I work safe and never take a chance ! I have no problem turning down a job if it's over my head ! My gear is basic but all high end ,I run dolmar saws and prefer new england or sampson ropes 16 strand . I may not be the fastest guy up in the tree but I do nothing unless I am sure ! At 52 I am thankful that I am in good shape and still feel good when I climb . I look forward to reading some topics here ,I hope I can pick up a few tips along the way . Thanks for reading !

Welcome to ArboristSite scullins. Lot's of jobs have gone down the tubes in this country. Glad you have some skill to fall back on. :msp_thumbup:

Welcome indeed, times are hard, the strong at heart and back will push through.

Welcome aboard... Glad to hear your still feeling good in the trees at 52... I'm 44 and was a certified forest technician for over ten years but only in my second year climbing and I gotta say, it makes me feel young! Many of my coworkers are much younger and they are always giving me props for workin circles around the newbies. The wife likes me workin hard too! :). I feel like I'm much younger than I am and hope to have many more years of this ahead of me. Seems like there is always work for skilled climbers! Unlike many professions that can go through dry spells, people are always wanting tree work done! You will get many great tips from the folks on this site and maybe a little razzing too. But it's almost always good natured and entertaining... Have fun on the forum!
