I know it is 77cc and it has an oval air filter.
From what I have discovered I think puts it in the 044 to ms 461 area.
The only number I have seen is in the thread title.
Is there another area of the saw to look for numbers that I missed?

Thanks very much for your time and expertise.

That is NOT a Stihl serial number... Looks like an EPA engine family number. The serial number is usually on the crankcase near the right side of the muffler

THNX will look again and harder!

Look around on some of the plastic castings. You will find a number that starts with 11. If you give us the two numbers after the 11 we can get the family and possibly the model. A picture will help us too.
Will do.Thanks

OK, cleaned the saw and looked harder: 1128 - 6561500A
I was just informed they found this too: D.O.M. 02/10 (on the motor I think)
also attached pics if that will narrow down the version.
It still has a 'Magnum' decal, for whatever that's worth.
thanks again

Ms460-77cc
rear handle says 77cc made feb 2010
Don’t think it’s ms440 -71cc unless someone swapped rear handle from ms460
If it is a 77cc then it would be a MS460, those flippy caps make it a MS series saw. The fuel tank did not look wide enough for a MS460 but it might just be the angle of the camera. Both the 440 and 460 have the 1128 parts designation, measuring the cylinder bore tells more about what you have.

If you can clean and make out the numbers that are right by the muffler, where I marked in your picture, someone might be able to pull the mode for you. This is where your serial number will be on stihl saws.

OK, I found the double hash on the bottom in pic (SAW2) I posted above.
So, if I understand correctly, that means it is not an 044 or MS 440.
And the "flippy" caps make it an 'MS' 460.
Please let me know if I have misunderstood the clues.
Thank you all so very much for all of your help.

PS - Does anyone know where badges for the MS 460 could be obtained for a reasonable cost?
