How hard would it be to convert a points Stihl 075 to a electronic ignition? Is it as simple as getting rid of the points/condensor and replacing with the correct coil? Thank you and have a blessed day.:)

the easiest thing to do is get one of the aftermarket electronic conversion kits. I've got one of those on an old Pioneer Holiday. It took minutes to instal and works great. Do an ebay search for aftermarket electronic ignition stihl and see what comes up.

You just snip the wires to the trigger unit and solder the module in, very easy. Don't even HAVE to pull the fly whell, you can leave the points in as redundat. You can get an 076 module (mount next to carb housing, mine does anyway) or an aftermarket one.

Stonykill, where do you get aftermarket kits?

I've only bought 1 and I got if off of ebay. I don't remember the seller or the price, other than it seemed like a bargain

Electronic ignition

Thank you all for the advise. I thought that their wouldn't be much involved. I might be getting a Stihl 075 points project saw in a few weeks. Thank you and have a blessed day.:)

Would one of those conversion kits work with the 056 I have that apparently has a failed electronic ignition?

that I don't know. I don't think so, but I'd ask that in the chainsaw forum. Many there will know for sure

NO. 056 are all solid state. You need the whole ignition unit. Can still get them new (the SEM ones anyway), but you need the correct flywheel - the single piece SEM flywheel. This ignition is on ts350 (maybe ts360) cut off saws, but I don't think the flywheel works. Or you can fit the old style points from an 045.

Help with wiring replacent electronic chip

Hi- don't know if you can help I'm trying to replace my 075 trigger unit which won't spark- ive bought a chip ( part no 1118-400-1001). Do you know if the wire from my existing coil unit to the failing trigger unit simply connects to the chip? Do you know what I should do with the wire from the starter switch that connects behind the flywheel? Should I leave that or does it become defunct?? If so how do you stop the saw?

Its been a while since I did the same thing you are asking about to my 075. I don't remember which wire is conected to what but I do know that I left my old defunct trigger in itstalled on the saw and mounted the new chip next to the coil and the original on/off switch is still functioning. If you don't get a better answer over on the chainsaw forum let me know and I will pull my saw out and snap a pic or two.

I got my Nova II elctronic module from my local small engine shop, he had 3 in stock, so I took all of them. Just followed the instructions that came with it. Went in my 100 CC Homelite Super 1050. Works great, Joe.
