I've been looking around for a month and have seen some options to replace my existing setup. I've posted about it before, but it's basically a furnace without a blower, an enclosure built around it, with two ducts supplying 2 squirrel cage fans. It heats the kitchen great, and the rest of the house unevenly.
I'm constantly up and down the steps adjusting it, checking temp, feeding it.
When the tax return comes I may want to replace it. But the rub is, it's got to be cheap and supply the whole house from the basement. This means probably upwards of 1000cfm. A furnace would be nice but they seem well over 1k.
I'm not in the same situation as some of you. My house is small, 1300sqft brick ranch that's fairly well insulated but with original 1948 windows. Pretty airtight and efficient house. Gas is pretty cheap. The last bill the price for a therm was about $1.
But I LIKE burning wood. That was part of the appeal when I bought this house in November. If it's close to a wash in cost I'd go with wood. I just can't see spending 2k on an appliance that will never pay for itself.
Seems like most of the regular stoves are designed to be in a living area and don't have decent sized blowers. Is a furnace like the US Stove the most economical way to go?
