Today I got a Promark stumper in need of repair. 18 hp self propelled. Where can I get parts for it? I looked on the internet with little results. I do believe that they are no longer in business.

The wheels are locked up now. Does the valve body go into forward reverse and neutral. In the neutral position should I be able to push it? I am familiar with the manual ones. I would think that it should have a neutral so that you could rock it from side to side to grind the stump. At this time it is in full time posi so there is no twisting of the machine from side to side. This machine doesn't have a brake on one wheel like I'm used to seeing.

Any info at all? More questions to follow. Thanks, John

Some of the earlier promarks were put out of service because the cutter wheel was located near the handle end. Very dangerous machine. As for the locked wheels, does it have a pin lock on one wheel that is maybe broken off in the locked position? I have seen them with a manual spring pin that you can lock in to get full traction and then pull out to swivel.

The price was right free. As I said I worked for a tree co. that had 2 promarks that were manual propelled. This could be made the same way with a little modification. I know all the places for bearings and shafts and motors. I dont know about the pump or the operation of this model.

With the manual one you put the brake on one wheel and rocked the other wheel side to side. move the machine and repeat. this small machine is great for foundation plantings and such.

after fooling with it today a little it will spin on itself to grind. One wheel going forward one in reverse. I still can't get it to roll freely. no way to push it without the motor running.

Those pumps have a lock-out that will allow you to push the machine. The parts for those are pretty generic. We built one new from scratch in 1993 but it would have been cheaper to buy one. I had a grand in just the frame. That's the thing about dosko and promark, all they build is the frame. The rest of the parts they just bought and put on. Promark may be out of business but as long as the manufactures they got their components from are in business you are in business.

yes I did see the lockout. It pushed a plunger on the side. The machine is tied on the trailer so I didn't move it yet. Do you know what type of fluid it uses?

I think the book says 30w nondetergent oil for the pump. The axle uses 90w oil. Eaton made most of the pumps for those machines (sometimes called the transmission) and peerless made the axle and those together are called the transaxle. I have used simplex transaxles under promark machines before and I think they call for hytran type fluid in the pump part.As for as I know promark never used simplex on their machines from the factory. Don't fill the cup on top of the pump all the way up the full mark is towards the bottom of it. All of the bearings and belts on that machine are available from NAPA.

Thanks everyone I do appreaciate it. McKee it does appear to be motor oil in the pump. Not tranny fluid or hydro fluid. Thanks again, John
