Thanks Jak. It ain't arboriculture--more like forestry/ecolgy--but it is interesting.

I never carved into the sweetgum, but I did hang a duck box nearby and have been watching a hatchling develop this summer.

Clearance or Jak - has either of you read "The Golden Spruce?" I don't recall the author. You probably know the story.

i just finished that book. not bad. Grant Hadwin was the dudes name. some sort of mental breakdown is what they are saying happened to him. regardless that dude is hardcore and is probably still some where in the forests of BC or Alaska today.

anyway from what i read i can see why he might have gotten a bit "upset" with the way they were/are mowing through them old growth forests up there.

dont get me wrong i love toilet paper.
