I have a small Dutch Western insert in my living room currently; this little insert kicks out amazing heat that just amazes everyone who experiences it. The only problem is that with the small firebox I only get 4 (maybe if I have the right combo of wood) to 6 hour burn time. That means I have to get up and load it up in the middle of the night and load it WAY to many times during the day. I am thinking about getting a larger unit such as the Harman Exception insert. Does anyone have any experience with the Harman insert keeping in mind I am looking for an 8-10 hour burn time?

Wood,
I don't know anything about Harman; I do know a little about Pacific Energy. Their biggest insert is the Summit and you can get a 8 hour burn time. Keep in mind that these suckers need a lot of room, so you will have to have a big fireplace.

Harmon makes a good stove. never had one, but people that own them like them. I have a Jotul insert and it works awesome. I can get 10 hr. burn time in cold weather with seasoned hard wood.

I'll agree with LT. I too can get 10 hours out of my Jotul 450 insert with a good load of hardwood. They make a great looking, easy to use unit too.

Thanks guys Thats what aI wanted to hear that it is truly possibile to get a 10 hour burn time from an insert. I want to go with Harmen I trust the dealer and harmen is made here in PA.

wood scrounge i feel your pain. i have the exacty insert. the advertised burn time and what the dealer told me the burn time is, is total bs. the insert throws tons of heat it makes my dads pellet stove look like an air conditioner. i usually get up at 2-3am to throw a couple logs in so it will make it through the night, its a pita. please let me know what you end up doing. i dont have the funding to replace mine this year. maybe tax time but well have to see.

Harmens are good stoves, nothing wrong with them. But, the Jotul is beautiful and close in price.
Just give them a look. Either or they both are good burners.
:greenchainsaw:

I've got a Jotul C450 also, it will get easily do 8 hours on a load. Have you looked at the Jotul 550?

I have three Harman stoves and they all can burn through the night. I use coal and wood and sometimes a combo of both. Beautiful pieces too.
