Was wondering whether you all give free estimates when it is an insurance estimate? We have always given free estimates on any kind of estimate. But I talked to another treeman who had been established for years in my area (recently retired), he said he gave free estimates unless it was for insurance work then he charged a $15 fee that was refundable upon completion of the job. He said this eliminates alot of the dry runs where people have no intention of having you do the work, they are just needing something to turn into their insurance company and collect, then do the work themselves.

$15. is too cheap. You should charge the same as you get for any other type of work. Customers should realize that they're getting what they pay for.
