Hey all I own a business in northeast PA that specializes in lawn care, landscaping, and tree removal. I’ve been having some trouble finding an insurance company that covers the tree removal side of things. I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction of an insurance provider that won’t break that bank and covers my needs. Thank you

Dealing with ins co and their under writers is very similar to dealing with the IRS. Other than that I can be of no help. I had an Ins co cancel my policy because their new under writer didn't like the name of my biz ( their suggestion was to change the biz name- don't have that co any more).

I assume you have talked to an independent insurance agent who deals with business insurance? It's going to be different in every state...

I've had policies underwritten by Huntington, Westfield and West Bend.

I think the Hartford had advertised insurance specifically for the tree care industry.

Find an agent with access to those and see what comes up.

ArborMAX advertises through TCIA (Tree Care Industry Association). Here is their info through TCIA: https://www.tcia.org/TCIA/TCIA/TCIA_Member_Services/Insurance/ArborMAX.aspx

Unfortunately Westfield is no longer in the business of tree care, aside from normal minor trimming a landscaper would do. West Bend has a good program, and if you end up in the excess & surplus lines market for general liability, CSU is a great option to pair with Cincinnati on auto, equipment, etc.

Back when I owned my tree removal / care business in Ohio, the most costly insurance was the Workers Comp insurance and second was the liability insurance. Fast forward to today and I have a Farm policy that covers the house, farm and my rental properties plus anything related to the farm and the vehicles and tractors and while it's not cheap, it's necessary and nice thing is, here in Michigan, a carrier cannot cancel you no matter how many claims you have under Michigan RTF law.

Insurance is always good when you don't need it nut if you do and you don't have it, you are screwed, big time. It's a necessary evil, especially when in business and the farm is a business, not a hobby.
