I carry a million dollar life insurance policy, for my sweet, lovely wife in case I bite it
Disability insurance to cover some income loss if I were to get badly hurt.
Health insurance in case me have to live at the hospital for a spell.
Then there's insurance on two business vehicles

As far as my tree business, that's my full insurance story.

I'll bet the noobs are shaking their heads on how much insurance I carry for my one-man operation. They told me since The Tree Machine is a corporation, and I am an employee of the corporation that I should really consider workman's comp for myself. I said, "Hello?" I think I covered that insurance with two other insurances, and no thank you.

I think what I've got is excessive, though that's only because of the disability policy. The rest is what it takes to completely cover your butt.

For the noobs, for my first few years in the industry, all I had was the liability certificate and insurance on the truck. That's the bare minimum.

I hope all this helps.

why does it show you are only covered from 4/1/05 until 6/1/05? Dan

HOLY CRAP! I didn't notice that. This doesn't surprise me, knowin me like I do, but for it to have gotten past Elizabeth, that's one for the books. I will check on this.

I guess that illuminates the point that ya gotta be vigilant and pay attention and read the stuff and ask questions. Thanks, TreeCo.

Whew !

OK, she says this certificate is a temporary binder, proof that I do have insurance. The agent wanted to make sure I had a certificate in-hand before he left. When he and Elizabeth talked prior to our meeting, they weren't sure whether I wanted to pay quarterly, twice a year, or shell out for the whole enchilada (when they talked my bank account was hovering just above zero) He said he'd write a temporary certificate for two months, and once I'd decided how I wanted to pay, they'd issue a certificate based on that period of time.

My prior year's insurance would have expired on April 1, and he was coming over on March 31st; he was just covering the fact that I waited until the very last day of my policy to get a new policy, just assuring that I had proof to carry. I must say, I'm quite impressed.

I don't enjoy shelling out for insurance any more than anyone, but I must say, it was quite painless and the service was very, very good.

I asked my agent if I could refer him on to my arborist buddies. He said, "Sure."

He only covers the Midwest U.S., about 5 central states, but he said he would take a call from any of you, and if he couldn't help you directly, he could likely refer you on to someone licenced in your state or region.

This will at least give the noobs a direction. I remember early in my days this insurance thing was a big, hairy, stressful mess and I didn't know where to go or who to ask. I am really happy to boil it all down for you: It's a phone call, some paper work and you cut a check. You don't even need to leave your house.

Climb safe. Peace.

Jim, I saved his card-I have to call next year. I just renewed 6 weeks ago-$1028 for 500,000 liability. $500 deductible (I'd have gone higher in deductible for a premium decrease but it wasn't an option) Full premium up front-which sucks big hairy moose lips in February.

Tree Machine,

You're being looked after ... there's zip, zero, zilch like that over here.

You have to wade thru a minefield of bull to get that sort of service let alone product.

Well done.

With your equipment, what is it covered for? What if some-one steals a chainsaw? Or you drop it? Or is it just theft from break'n'enter?

You never know ... maybe old dude will ring him

insurance refferal

Tree Machine--
Thank you- thank you- thank you! I will be caling your man TODAY! The policy price you describe is just too good for even a curmudgeon like me to pass up. Every other time I looked into insurance, the policies were so ridiculous that I just had to walk away. Thanks again for the lead.
