Does anyone here just do stump grinding? If so were you able to get insurance for just stump grinding?

I'm trying to get liability insurance for my stump grinding business but all the major insurance companies that sell in Massachusetts won't write a policy for just stump grinding. The only ones that well offer insurance want to write for tree removal, which I don't do. Insurance for "landscaping" does not cover stump grinding and there is a big difference between the premium for landscaping and the premium for tree removal

A friend of mine Only grinds stumps and he has Liability Landscaping Insurance with a Stump grinding Rider. Stump grinding Should be Equal to landscaping in My oppinion. You can Tear up a heck of a lot more with a Bobcat than you can with a grinder.....

I am with Dave on this one. Get the landscaping insurance. It's much cheaper than tree insurance. Also, landscaping insurance has to cover you to a certain depth anyways, I think 18 or 24" and then a certain height as well (25'?)

Welcome to ASite!
Where in MA are you?

You should be fine with the lanscapers' insurance. That's what my sub uses.

When I had landscaper's insurance, the way it was described to me was that they will cover you for if you want to go and grind out some stumps, or if you are going to dig some trees. What they don't want to cover you for under the landscape policy is if you are going to be doing utility work, drainage systems, foundations, etc.

Have them show you exactly where in the landscaping policy is excludes the grinding - I believe it should cover it, and if not an endorsement to buy back the coverage should be possible...

Don't be afraid to check around to other insurance agents. Some agents don't know sh!t and would rather tell you no it can't be done rather than admitting they don't know how to do it or they don't want to be bothered to do it.

Yeah... what Mike said.

Not to mention all reates are NOT the same...

As soon as I dig out from the blizzard we just had I'm going to continue to question the insurance agents about the landscaping insurance.

I appreciate all of the information that everyone has supplied to me. At least now I have a direction to go in.

thanks to all

LOL Can you even find the Stumps now?

3 feet plus and the outer cape didn't stop snowing until thursday. We only got 22" and then 6" on wednesday. eastern mass is pretty much closed for the last week.

Blizzard? HAH! I was hoping for a few more feet, like when we were kids!

Ya to be a kid again. grab a shovel and make a few bucks shoveling driveways. clear an area on the pond for pond hockey.( snow made for some good boards on the pond ) But! now that i'm older ( a lot ) and have to work in it. (contrary to my profile stump grinding is a part time business) shoveling, operating the snow thrower, pushing it with a bucket loader, long hours, cold, wet feet, etc

SNOW SU----CKS

question: do kids go shovel driveways to make money anymore. I have not seen any kids with shovels in a long time

Nope, not unless it's a playstation game or they can get paid $50 an hour. I think all of the kids that used to shovel their neighbors are grown up and we do it with plows. :D
