Can someone(Stihltech, JimL) tell me if stihl made a version of the intelli carb for the 044 and the 026 that had traditional HS and LS spring loaded adjustment screws? Part numbers would be nice

Ill have to look tomarrow, I do know that there is a bunch of carbs that fit the 026, not sure about the 044 off the top of my head.

Sorry I can't give you the #'s but there are intelecarbs for both the 026 (pro models) and the 044 (it has an oval port like the 066 has for the intelecarb.

If memory serves, the intelli or compensating carb was introduced as a way around concerns about not having a fully adjustable carb. That said, it may be possible to use the vented cover off an intelli carb on one of the adjustable carbs if they're the same basic series.

carbs

For while, when you bought a carb for an 026, it came with a flat top plate and the top plate with the duct for the air filter.
That is why I get a little riled when someone blames the intellicarb for a poor running saw. It is the same carb!.

What makes the Intellicarb a bad carb for the 026 is the fact that you can NOT fine tune the adjustment without ordering a jet from the dealer, waiting for it to come in, going and picking it up, taking it home and disassembling the carb, putting the carb back together with the new jet, starting the saw and HOPING that it will run right! With the adjustable jet, you simply grab a small screwdriver and fine tune the high end jet while the saw is running. It is a 30 second procedure on the spot rather than a 2-3 week ordeal and $5 per jet.
It took me 2-3 months to get my 026 running right, and it was too lean the whole time. I'm now running a .56 jet and have the low ends screw turned out about 2-2 1/4 turns to make it rich enough. I finally got the .57 jet from the dealer 10 miles away (after they had to order it from corporate because the distributor didn't have it) but haven't torn the carb down to change it yet. I'm afraid to mess with it since it's running good now.

044

My 044 has the intellicarb, it is to keep the mixture the same with a dirty filter.

If you got the jet out that far, you are most likely compensating for an air leak. Get it checked out as it will cost big bucks later.
I have never moved up more than 1 jet size to cure a lean carb.

Is there a part number for an adjustable carb for the 026pro? My saw has only one adjustment.
Thanks

I can send you a parts breakdown which lists 4-5 different carbs with pictures, but YOU MUST EMAIL ME in order for me to send it back to you. We've been down this road before, George, and since you do not have your email listed I cannot send it to 'GeorgeWLogger on the internet'. BWalker has the same parts list also.

I picked up my .57 and .58 jets from the dealer last week and finally decided to take the time to re-address my carb on my 026 yesterday. With the .56 jet installed my low end screw was at 1.5 turns out, not 2 turns as I thought. The .57 jet looked suspiciously like a .51, so I decided to use the .58 instead (I hate having to do something twice). After installing the larger jet I had to turn the idle down a little and the low end screw adjusted out to about 7/8 turn from bottom(I'm at less than 100' above sea level). Throttle response is instant and when I made some test cuts into a large stump the saw did not bog at all even when I leaned into it. This saw finally has the balls it is supposed to have!
Too bad it took a few months, much research here and $20 worth of jets to get it right instead of 30 seconds with a tiny screwdriver. I still think the fixed jet setup is a bad idea. 98% of Intellicarb owners will never get the available power out of their saws. They will instead think of Stihls as overpriced and under powered. Only the stubborn and persistent will be able to find out the truth.

Problems like this make me happy I bought a Husky XP model.
Discussions like the above thread are GREAT !!
When I purchased a new saw I wouldn't have thought to ask a question like " does this saw have a high needle jet ajustment".

Well...some folks say patience is virtue.

I did about 30 minutes cutting yesterday,fell and bucked two hickories(lightning strikes,20"dbh).

I used my 026 about 15 minutes on the smaller cuts, did a fine job.The air filter however did get pretty dirty for the time cutting.

I also used my 372xp about 15 minutes on the larger cuts just breaking it in and the air filter showed very little residue:)

Howdy

The larger modern saws all have the same issue. On a stock 066 you'll find a #62, 64, 64, or 70 fixed "valve" jet. I got lucky and found some Walbro #74 jets for the WJ series of carbs and have been installing them all in the 066 and 395 saws I have been working on. Same as with your 026 carb, the throttle response and power are just amazing.

I don't understand the apparent confusion. "Intellicarb" does not equal "fixed jet carb". They are two (principally) unrelated things.

The "Intellicarb" simply uses, as the "atmospheric" side of the metering diaphragm, the "atmosphere" inside the air filter. Regardless the condition of the filter (within reasonable limits, of course) the fuel openings in the carburetor will thus maintain their appropriate(?) functionality. When the metering diaphragm uses "atmospheric" pressure which is unrelated to the condition of the air filter, the fuel openings can effectively change size and/or location as the intake filter becomes more restrictive.

As good and ingenious as the configuration is, there's no substitute for maintaining a clean air filter. In fact, even with their centrifugal primary filtration, the Husky 357XP/359 (according to page 31 in http://62.119.24.35/order/doc/HOUS/HOUS2000/HOUS2000_1019072-95.pdf) is supposed to have the air filter cleaned daily.
