I sharpen chains as kind of a small-time sideline thing. I probably sharpen about 50 chains/year for neighbors, friends, and coworkers. For whatever reason, this time of year has become one of my busiest and fall, for obvious firewood cutting, is the other busiest time.

Anyhow, after my grinder sitting idle for the past several weeks, I have sharpened 8 chains in the past two days for three different guys. All have been 1/4". In fact, the trend I have noticed is nearly all of my spring/summer sharpening is 1/4" and nearly all of my fall/winter is .325 and 3/8. Any ideas as to why this is?

That's easy - they've found someone who will sharpen all those little cutters for little money:ices_rofl:

NEVER tell you neighbors you have a chain grinder:bang:

I didn't intend for this to happen, but lately guys at work are bringing me chains to sharpen. Don't have a grinder, just use files held by that Oregon $30 holder that clamps onto the bar. Did a few chains for a coworker that offered some firewood trees and he liked the sharpened chains so much (well, yeah- they looked like he cut bricks with 'em) that he bragged how well they cut. Now I'm gettin' 2 a week. Don't let this happen to you- you may no longer have a social life... but you may never run out of beer, either.
