I operated a rented 26 ton Iron and Oak this week.
This is a very well constructed unit. Very heavy. Honda motor worked great.
The cycle speed was slower than other units I’ve used in this tonnage range but it was virtually unstoppable. I’ve stopped the 25 and 27 ton DHT units I’ve used in tough stuff. This pushed right through both elm as well as knotty spruce. Granted once it hits tough stuff it literally just creeps along but it did not stop. With the slow cycle I’m almost wondering if this is a higher tonnage unit.
Cons:
Wheel fenders had sharp corners and wanted to catch my leg when I stood next to them. Also the engine needs a guard as the fuel tank was already dented up from a previous user dropping splits on it.
Overall if I split a lot of tough stuff I’d definitely recommend. If I was looking to split a large volume of straight grained wood I’d look for a faster cycling unit.
