Is a stihl 084 and 088 the same basic saw?

Is a stihl 084 and 088 the same basic saw? Are the wieght and performance the same? Is there one that is more desireable than the other? thanks.

there is something different about them, I just dont know what it is right off.
the 084, is the predecessor to the 088, but thats about the limit of what I know.

AcresInternet surprisingly doesn't have much on these except that the 084 was introduced in '93 and the 088 was introduced in '99. Both are 7.42 C.I. displacement.

Now for my opinion (worth what it's costing you)- I think the 084 had a manual oiler in addition to the auto oiler, the 088 only has the auto oiler. I would suspect that the 088 should have a higher power output. Other minor differences I'm sure.
