im making another custom saddle project and trying different methods of tying in my flip line prussik. a good friend of mine uses a water knot to tie on a 6 coil prussik into the D ring and clips a dog leash snap to the D ring and the eye of the leash auto tends the prussik. is this knot safe?

is there any other knot to use other then the double fishermans?

End to end figure eight follow through.

But as you can see, they don't trust it and back it up with a double fishermans.... If you dress the figure eight really well then it will hold, and it is one of the strongest knots as far as load bearing is concerned. But they do put those double fishermans in for a reason. The 8 will take the load a lot better so you'll be able to break the knot if you desire, the double fishermans may be a "cut out".

Water Knot is good for webbing, but a Beer Knot would be stronger since you put one end of the webbing into the other and tie it that way. Since you are using prussic cord I wouldn't use either of those knots! Sliding Double Fishermans would be ideal instead.-Kevin

i THINK what he wants to do is make a prussik loop for his lanyard that attaches directly to his D ring, and then clips a dogleash style snap around the lanyard behind the prussik to mechanically advance it...?

I use 2 fisherman onto a carabiner for my flipline VT, just as I would tie off for a climbing line. I might try a tighter hitch next time, like a schwabish.

If I was climbing with a prussik instead of mechanical device on my flip line voxac, I would use an eye to eye cord on a biner sandwiching a micropully behind the knot. (Probably a distel instead of the 6 loop for smoother operation.)

Thats the best thing to do really, as long as your knots or safe just use whatever you like best.. just makin suggestions.

Yeah good point JPS... i meant it more as in the style, being a loop or an eye to eye - I'd prefer the eye to eye, either with a splice or knot.
