When I watch the Axemen I cant help but wonder if the logging business is really that crazy.I am in the trucking business and we maintain a level of respect and professionalism in my company. My woodlot is my hobby and I enjoy being in the woods.I have never worked at a pro level in the logging business. But when I work with tree service poeple in my area, they are always polite, safety conscious, courteous and happy with there job.I guess if everything was wonderful on the Axemen it would be boring.

its a tv show
who knows how much they are getting paid to act like that
maybe they are cool, even gabe. you never know :chainsawguy:

I would imagine there is a lot of drama added in for the camera. They work out away from the public so they have a lot more leeway in how they can act and behave as well as being able to get away with the language they use.

I would Imagine most logging outfits are just like any other profession though. I'm sure tempers flare and there are some intense moments but nowhere near what you see on TV. I mean, who's gonna work for an A-hole who is always cussing them out? In urban tree care you are working around the public so you have to watch your language and behavior. Not to say that everyone doesn't have their moments when they get frustrated but just like any profession, you have to keep your cool and not show your ass in public.

Just remember that this stuff done for TV and you can believe that most of it is drama manufactured for the camera.

Just remember those idiots on that motorcycle show. People are not going to sit there and watch " normal"

I guess I'm thinking about the same show. Every show the father scerams and cuss's at the son, but by the time the show is over, it's all good, and project finished.

Like others said, if you had to watch them all week, it would be boring, Joe.

You know I think shows like Axmen are reflective of the overall bad quality of tv today.I actually have a hard time watching most of the crap out there.I do not watch much at all.Shows like the history channel and learning channel were the better shows to watch.I always enjoyed watching a series on the civil war and the history of the gun to name a few.Informative, interesting programs. As far as the Axmen,I would actually enjoy it if they showed poeple really doing there job in a professional, respectful manner.I personally feel that most loggers and tree service poeple are very talented, professional tradesmen that deserve respect. One example that comes to mind is the yankee workshop with norm.A nice show that I have learned alot from watching.A logging show done like that would be nice.

Yeah, I am more into the educational programming as well. I very rarely watch mainstream TV. It's History Channel, Science Channel, Military Channel or Public TV. Love Yankee Workshop, that show is what inspired me to buy my router.

Anyway, I have watched a little bit of Axemen but I usually loose interest after a few minutes. To much Jerry Springer and not enough of the actual work shown. I did watch the climbers on Helli Loggers the other night and it was a pretty good show. It seems most folks would rather watch a bunch of cussing and arguing than what actually goes on in the trade. Hey, treemen are some characters but they do some pretty cool stuff too if people would take the time to watch and see the actual work.

I've never seen Axmen, but I have worked as a chokerman on the rigging. When life is conspiring against you, with log hangups, kinky chokers, miserable weather, hungover coworkers, screaming hooktenders or muddy ground with no holes under the logs to put the chokers through frustration can put a person over the top, and a good screaming match complete with hardhat tossing and kicking is sometimes necessary to bring you back to normal. http://www.arboristsite.com/images/smilies/dizzy.gif

The actual work.Thats what I mean.Lets see the work being done and tell us what is going on.I want to know what kind of saw, what size chain, details about what they are doing and why.I worked as an iron worker for many years before getting into trucking,so I know what a bad day is like. But I always felt I should keep it together.Keep it respectful.Because once you cross that line, its hard to go back, and once the young guys buy into the non professional day to day nonsense, they follow.Jerry Springer is a great example.I think that is what started it.
