To all those at AS, I have a question. Is this portion of the forum (Commercial Tree Care and Climbing) open to all members regardless of skill level? I have been enjoying the discussion and friendly ribbing for several months now. Once in a while I even throw a comment in as well, not as an expert in the field, more along the lines of joking with the others here (sort of following the crowd, I guess). Then I came across the following comment from Mike Maas:

"As far as Rocky goes, he has always taken the time to help anybody that posts, even the obvious idiots who don't belong here (a site for pros)."

I consider myself a fairly smart guy, but have never claimed to be a skilled tree care worker. However, I am very much interested in tree care, particularly climbing. I have a tremendous amount of respect for those that work in this field, and welcome any guidance that will help me proceed in the safest manner. If my presence here is unwelcome, then I will cease to post in this part of AS. It seems that most of the climbers hang out (pun intended) in this section of the site, and that is why I was drawn in. How do the rest of you feel about this? Later, Roger.

As long as you intend to act professionally (most of the time) you've got a place her.

Since it reads "and climbing" we have had some rec. climbers here too.

I raised an eyebrow when I read that comment posted by Mr. Maas. Everyone has to start somewhere. This seems like a great place for the cream of the crop to rise even higher. Not only that, the beginners can come here and increase their skills by leaps and bounds.

I do my best not to ridicule new people. In the past few years of my life, I've done all sorts of new things...so I know what it's like to be the new guy.]. I know that when there is a good work environment, good people are more inclined to stay.

I don't look at AS as an elitist website, but occasionally I read posts that lead me to believe the poster wants it to be like a country club.

Keep it open for everyone!

love

Roger, most of the guys (and gals) are more than helpful in the Tree Care Forum. I've asked for help and opinions as, much or more than the average member. I've found that as long as you ask and respond repectfully.... you are usually treated with respect.

Jeff

Oh yeah Butch, here's a rookie question....Who was baseballs' National League Rookie of the Year in 1981? :p

Sometimes a rookie will get on the site and ask a question I thought I knew the answer to. All of a sudden I discover a whole new wealth of info on the subject that I may have never thought about. It's important to keep on learning, and even though a lot of stuff gets rehashed here, lots of new little tips and tidbits float to the surface through all the repetition.

Also, I wouldn't be nearly as good or safe at my job today if I had not had the patience and knowledge of AS pros to answer mine and other rookies questions. I think that is a valuable service to trees and treeworkers everywhere.

I think everyone here has something to learn...if you don't... then you must know everything and it's time to get out.

Jeff

For most people, no mater how good you are, you will allways be rookie to someone.

I like working around people who are bertter then me, but it can be humbling. Sean Gere will jsut walk up a tree in his gaffs and it looks effortless. He makes it look so easy the tree seems to take it's self apart

Joey Cornell will run to show offthe cut the brush out so it stacks up in piles, and still blow the thing out so fast my head will spin.

Bithe those guys are ony around 4 years younger then me. When people tell me how good i am, i just think back to those jobs to keep my head from getting any bigger:D

I always hear the same thing.

"I bet you sleep good at night!"

"Do you ever get scared up there?"

"You sure know what you're doing!"

"Can I give you a $100 tip?"

To be truthfull, the last has only happened once... ;)

I’m glad you guys get all the stupid question the one I get most often is “would you like to come inside for a piece of pie”

When they ask that, or if i am going to crash their roof; i say no, i figure ya could do that yourself, and not have to hire me if that is what ya wanted......

i think your using pie in a different sense Mike....

But, i don't think that running off anyone would be up to an olde boyz club un-officiating to keep the breed of the schoolyard pure, especialy with tactics befitting the example. i'd vote that running people off should be JP and Darin's jobs exclusively, they seem trust worthy; that is assuming that isn't the way it s'posed to be anyway(?)

i think that 1 attack or less-on; could silence 4 other potential 'newbie' posts from others, lest it be their turn next. And their new, so they can't even tell that their question would be 'better' that the booed one. So, then everyone loses, new blood can be good!

i too have learned from questions that seemed obvious, or new material on etc. that came from those with newer and less tainted sight. So i find room for most all.

i once again find moron to be a very poor word choice; and see plenty that others are asked to skim their eyes over if they don't like. So it would seem to me that the few occurances of 'off questions' could as likewise be ignored, instead of a redundant spiral to ugliness.

Orrr something like that.
