I need to get 75 cords cut in a 2 month period its all cedar/pine and very little oak the tress are on the ground and easy to back up to it doesent need to be split just cut hauled 10 miles and unloaded . I can haul 2 cords at a time and work 5 days a week 8 to 10 hours a day i have decent saws 394 husky and 066 stihl . So i was just wondering if any of you think its possible ? or would i be killing myself to get it done in that amount of time?

2 loads a day 20 days a montd for 2 months.

Decent weather, nothing breaks down and your body holds up then it sounds doable.

IF he can do 2 loads a day, that is 4 cords per day. That would mean that you could accomplish the task in 19 working days.

can you hire/rent a processor to come in for a few days? cut and split into a big pile, then bobcat load it into a truck over the next few weeks?

2 a day seems mighty tall order physically to me at least.

k

you probably would--but as you get stronger, and accustomed to it---youll be able to do it faster--and more of it----been there

Yep. You can do 4 cord per day easy.

You already have the trees on the ground and can back right up to them. Hauling 2 cord per trip over 10 miles is perfect since you can use the 10 mile drive as a breather.

If you go steady over those 8 - 10 hour days you'll end up with more than 4 cord per day.

i would have to cut and load a cord every 2 1/2 hours to do 4 cords in a 10 hour day and thats not counting drive time and unloading . i dont think anyone could do that i know i couldn't .I would be happy with 1 load (2 cords in one day)

Man, I think I would want some help. Can you hire a couple of kids to pick up for ya?

I could see doing that, I moved 19 cord in a day, I cut on and off for about a week and hauled ALL of it in 5 hrs., but I had a lot of help from my skidsteer with grapple and a rented dump trailer. I hardley touched a piece of wood except when cutting, the rest was done with the Bobcat. The dump trailer cost me 75.00 a day rental and was well worth it, I spent more time traveling back and forth than I did loading and unloading it. Depends on if you can afford to rent such equipment it well make things go FAST:rock:

How much (net) am I making per cord ??

Thats what I would ask myself if I were you. That sounds like a lot of work. I hope there is good money in it for you. Getting help sounds like a good idea. Even if if you can't find someone who can handle a saw it is usually not too hard to find a student who can do all the humping for you. Loading 75 cords is a lot of work even spread out over several days. Does your truck/trailer dump ??

What Gink said,

I don't doubt that you could cut the wood. It's the loading that's gonna knock you for a loop. If you're throwing it on by hand, then 2 cords a day is gonna be plenty. You say you can haul 2 cords, so you must have a dump truck or large truck and trailor. If you do take the gig, weight yourself before and after.

i have a 1990 ford f 350 diesel and a 16 foot flat bed duel axle trailer with 4 foot sides (no dump) i can get more than 2 cords but it will need to be stacked in and i think it will be easyer and faster to just throw it in and take less time then stacking it in . Hiring someone might be an idea i will see how it goes this is all going to start next week and i have sep 15th to have my 75 cord out.

also one more question i have a little less than a 1/2 acre set aside to store this wood and let it dry .Do you think it will be enough room to pile it or will it need to be stacked

512 cubic feet

Assuming your trailer is 8' wide you have 512 cubic feet (4 cord). Thrown in you would get close to 3 cords per load. Stacking makes much more work and unless your trailer is very heavy duty you may have weight problems. Depending on how dry the wood is 2 cord will weigh at least 7500 pounds. Green could be much more.

the trailers 6 1/2 wide i know it will hold more but it only has brakes on one axle so it would be kind scary with that much weight coming to a stop

moving fast

If I have to move wood fast,I cut bush cords 5'-6' long depending on the diameter and wheel them with a 2 wheel cart on a landscape trailer as much as she will hold.
It is always better to have your wood in to where you can cut it to size on your 1/2 acre than to be at the merce of mother nature:confused:
(A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush)
