I am working on a neighbors 026. Doesn't want to start-dry plug. Swapped carb with one that is known good-no change.

Good gas flow to carb.

Decided to check impulse line-good.

The thought occured to me that with the piston at bdc and the exhaust port sealed that I could blow in the impulse line to check the crankcase seal.

Either the crankase sealing is a problem or my thinking is incorrect, which seems to happen more frequently as I get older <G>.

IMO, your thinking is correct. checking for seals blown out, then alll that good stuff.

For some reason, it didn't like running with this gasket.

A friend of mine had the same problem on a not very old saw, a dry plug with a good carb. I was trying to help him but couldn't take a leak test and didn't want to pull it apart, so I suggested he take it to a local place that works on saws. He tells me that they put in a new cylinder and piston and it solved the problem!... while costing a bundle. I think they tweaked him myself. He can afford it though.
