I know the 353's around here are E Tech model's with the cat mufflers. What about the 346XP? Thanks!
Are they going to keep the 346 a non E Tech model?I am in NY also. My dealer has the 353 and 359 in e-tech and 346 and 357 in the non e-tech.
Thanks spike. My next saw is going to be a 50cc class saw. I was leaning towards the 353. Now that I have my 365 a 346 might make more sense. Especially if the 346 is a non E Tech model. My way of thinking was if I bought a 353 I'd change the muffler to the non cat. That adds $35 or so more to the price of the saw. I'd only be another $20 or so away from a 346. I'd be better off getting the 346 in that case. I guess I can forget that theory now. I won't be buying any time soon. They're coming through as E-techs now. Just look for the green cap.

Off topic but...........I spent a lot of time in your area when I was a kid. I was at the Franklin County Fair the night there was the shooting back in the late '80's, remember that?!
I've never lived up there. I've lived in Syracuse my whole life. I have family that lives up in Dickinson Center, NY off Rte. 11B. I use to spend the summer's up there when I was a kid. Been to Malone many times. Nicholville, Moira, North Lawrence, Bangor, Brushton just to name a few............great memories, great places!Yep, I remember. Did you live around here when you were younger? The 353 and 359 have only been available as e-techs for a couple of years around here. I have seen the 346 and 357 both ways but my local dealer has only been carrying the non e-tech ones lately. Its funny this thread came up because I just made up my mind the other day that I wanted a 346 and stopped to my dealer to make sure they still had the non e-tech ones.
I wouldn't mod the muffler, just replace it with a non cat muffler. My 346 is an E-Tech.At the time I did not know the difference. Now however ,I have modded the muffler and I dont know if you could tell the difference.Point being,i wouldnt be afraid to pickup the E-tech,if you were to do a muffler mod.Just my 3 cents.

If I could live anywhere in New York State it would be in Franklin County. Somewhere around the St. Regis Falls and Santa Clara area would be nice. I have a really good job here in the city and could never give it up! But I love it up there.

I'd buy a non cat muffler and put it on. I'm going to get a tach so I can tune all my saws. I don't know when I'll be buying a 353 or 346. It's probably not going to be any time soon.If you can't get a non E-Tech, just gut the muffler and re-tune.
All the models mentioned has been availiable with or without e-tech for several years, it is a question of what the importers/distributers choose to offer....... :help: :help:
Btw, my Husky dealer once told me that he has sold a grand total of one e-tech saw, and he changed the muffler out for an ordinary one on warrancy after a while, as the saw ran far too hot (believe it was a 242xp).
hmmm, 242xp with cat, dont think so...
