It was the first saw ever offered with a cat, at least that is what the husky legend says.;)

They sure do exist with cats and they have less power then non cat versions !!
You are right Troll ,,,,,

Ohh, i quess youre right on that... well, my 242xp is non-cat and thats what really matters :rockn:

What do you guys think about this?
Plus I'm still not really sure which one to get. I've been told a 346 will cut a little faster then the 353 in wood under 10 inches in diameter due to it's higher RPM's. And a 353 will cut a little faster then a 346 in wood over 10 inches in diameter due to it having more torque, bar lengths and chains being equal (I'll run a 16" b&c). I'll use the saw to cut limbs from 2 inches to 10 inches or so, and blocking logs from 6 inches to about 12 inches.

I'd buy a non cat muffler and put it on. I'm going to get a tach so I can tune all my saws. I don't know when I'll be buying a 353 or 346. It's probably not going to be any time soon.

Thats true,i would say.I use 346 but for you if cut occasionnaly, get the 353 if the price is important for you.

Yep, that was the first and last time they admitted that it made a difference in power output...........;)

Stihl also admitted that it did, on the 044C.

All the models mentioned has been availiable with or without e-tech for several years, it is a question of what the importers/distributers choose to offer....... :help: :help:

Btw, my Husky dealer once told me that he has sold a grand total of one e-tech saw, and he changed the muffler out for an ordinary one on warrancy after a while, as the saw ran far too hot (believe it was a 242xp).

In areas in the US outside of California, and Nevada, dealers get their saws from Husky USA and all the 353's and 346's from them are Etech units these days. Same with 359's, but I think 357's are not. Also noticed that our 357's still have an EPA phase 1 sticker on them. Looks like those are only being produced as is due to EPA credits. Every other model we sell/sold with a phase 1 sticker has been phased out. I wouldn't be surprised to see 357's go to the etech cat if they stay in the line up.

The more I think about it the 353 might be a better choice for me. In addition to limbing, I'll also use it for blocking logs up to 12 inches or so in diameter quite often. Anything bigger I'll use the 365. It looks like I'm going to have to buy a non cat muffler for either saw.

Again, it is not a question of production, but what they choose to sell in the US, to comply with EPA rules/credits.........;)

yeah yeah yeah...correct me again spec monster troll :hmm3grin2orange: Maybe I should have said "sold" in the US.
