Any advice for what's going on with the tree on the right here? I don't know how to treat the brown scale on it or if I need to do something about it. I live in MN.

Looks like emerald ash borer damage to me. The tree is likely already a goner and there is nothing you can do.

Yeah - that's Emerald Ash Borer. OK, not "technically" EAB. The bark missing is from woodpeckers. But the woodpeckers are going after EAB.

Almost certainly bad enough that its not treatable at that point. But if the tree has leaves over the entire canopy - especially in the top center (I'd be surprised if so as much woodpecker activity as there is), it MAY be manageable.
