BB, Should be all over in your neck of the woods. Saw one in South Jersey some years ago with a 4' trunk and maybe 100' tall. I'll check Google Earth and see if it's still standing. Been 20 years now. Furniture and veneer grade wood it is.

Yeah, I guess I have. Mostly in public parks and picnic areas. I still have yet to see any come down around here. I'll keep my eyes open.

I had considered Cherry looking at the planed plank but after viewing what looks like fall off, Cherry bark doesn't furrow that deep. I know of no species of Prunus that does. Not seeing any lentices in the edge ruled out American Beech.

one more question.how do you get that finish like in the picture of that bowl??? it looks awesome! also i moved my wood outside under my shed to dry and painted just the ends of the boards with latex is that all i should do?

+1 on the sweetgum

The bark in that one pic looks like sweet gum.

Next time take a pic of the end grain, oak can easily be identified that way.

Your stickers seem a little short. I like mine to at least make it to the edge. I put every 16 to 24 inches depending on how thick the boards are. When i'm done stacking my boards I throw what ever i have laying around on them for weight. Another thing I've had good luck with is ratchet straps. Just be sure to check that they are tight from time to time.
