Is tree work fun?

i used to think tree work was fun, now it's just a job, in fact lots of times it downright sucks, when I retire I want to move to a place that has no trees, now that would be easy on my brain.

Heck yes its fun unless you work for a cheap production minded slave driver. I used to work for a "Big" international arborist tree care company. By Friday I was worn out physically. Pay was low and I felt abused. I climbed and climbed and climbed. Humped wood like there was no tomorow. I worked the crumiest residential jobs because low bidders would decline ( i.e. 100 apple tree orchard pune with 500 yard drag to the chipper). But... the education was priceless. Was it worth it? Hell Yes! I love tree work , I love trees. But I loved trees before I ever did tree work.

I`m now a one man show , word of mouth only. I pick my work and have a good reputation. I work about 2 days a week ( by choice ) and I`m lean and profitable. I have finally arrived at the place I want to be. I work only enough to make me excited about every job I do without getting burned out.

Does this look like fun or what? ( PPE Nazi`s cut me a break )

Glenn definatly has it figured out.....2 days a week......and loving it.

Hell yeah its fun, and i nearly (did) forget how much. With growing my company it saw me "off the tools" and working on the business and in the sales side of things for about the last 5 years. An odd string of events with one climber leaving at same time as another hurt his back just unhitching a trailer saw me filling in for the last couple of months.

Totally digging it now and remembered why i were doing this in the first place, Its fun, mentally & phisically challengeing, rewarding- when either saving/retaining an old beauty and knowing you helped it or solving the puzzle of dismantling something big in a tight spot.

Now i'm having withdrawal symptoms:bang: after not climbing for the last week and a 1/2 due to stub punturing my bicep. Few more days, stitches out and i'll be up there again.

Thinking about not replacing the missing climber now, that way i get to have his fun and get his wage on top of mine in terms of increased profit:blob2:

Almost too much fun!

Definitely fun! I'm always working on being more energy-efficient in the tree which definitely increases the fun. I guess I could even say I enjoy every aspect of arboriculture but there are definitely days when the novelty is worn thin. What we do and for the great pay we receive I can actually say I love what I do...think about it...not many people can say that!

No Doubt but remember to be safe fer ya cant have fun under da tree.......

Ill never ferget the first tree i helped fell it was like when the wind blew thru me it filled my veins with sawdust i was hooked ever since i was 13 and im 31 now with no end in sight:bang:

Definitely fun!
A day like today, thinning and pruning a post storm hack back (not mine) Got a nasty looking tree to look like it has a future - satifying. AND I got to swing around in the shade where the breeze was blowing, birds singing, nice day!
And how's about this, did a job for my old high school headmaster - he dragged all the brush, ha ha, all those years they made US sweat, it was my turn to make HIM sweat! He had a blast, and was very complementary and glad to see an ex student who loved their job!

Surely by definition everyone here must like their job, if when they get home they go onto the forum for some more.... People who hate the job are coming home and having a beer or something else, definitely not coming on here.

Now I recall why I don't do landscaping any more -
Two Poinciana trees in the morning - deadwood light prune - FUN
Spent the afternoon subbing for a friend, spreading soil (by hand) for a new installation - NOT FUN
