It happened today

Wife and I were watching a thunderstorm, while I was remarking how tulip poplars and pines are good lighting rods, when bang the neighbors pine was struck. I have seen many things in my life (including a tree falling in the woods) but that was the most powerful thing I have ever seen. The tree did not sustain very much damage, but time will tell. I enjoy putting lighting protection in trees. Now I will enjoy putting it in on my own property.

A couple of years ago I saw lightning strike the road in my rear vision mirror. That's close enough for me!

Oh, and years back I watched lightning strikes that were nearby and BELOW me while I was climbing.
