Interesting thread! I bought a guide bar off the bay a few weeks ago. Order didn't ship. Did some digging and found out the sellers info. Gave them a phone call. Turns out they "cancelled" my order. I explained to them that "you can't do that on Ebay!!!!" The secretary quickly investigated and told me the part was out of stock and had been put on back order. She offered to refund my money...or I could wait. I waited. Few days later she emails me that she, herself, went out to the warehouse and actually found a bar to fill my order and had already shipped it. So, guess what happened next.....I get a new saw bar in the mail two days later.....and then I get another new saw bar in the mail a week after the first one. So, there I sit with two Oregon 423RNDD025 bars! (not cheap). Long story short...Called them, got a fedex label, and the extra bar is on the road back to them. Sometimes a growing company can really struggle with new employees and the learning curve. I will definitely buy from them again because they really worked hard to fill my order....so much so that they ended up sending me two bars!

Is anyone going to be any better? Or, is this just the reality of today's supply chain?
probably not. I have talked to Hayward(jonsered distributor) about their fill rates on their orders....I am excited when i place an order and receive 50% of it and the other 50% only takes 2-3 weeks to come in......we spent a couple hours going over some of my orders as i complained about ordering 10 of part A every 4-6 weeks and they never have more than 2 in stock. Turns out if only one or 2 dealers are ordering a part, even if they are ordering 10 per month, they still wont stock it in the warehouse.

I ordered 6 WJ-76 carbs for 066's a couple weeks ago, they had to pull those from 3 warehouses to fill my order and it took over a week to get them and thats from one of the largest distributors in the country. I just ordered 6 more carbs from the same place and 5 of them are now on BO. They havent gotten the hint from the 30 carbs ordered over the last few months that they need to stock more than 1.

Within one hour of placing my order with Bailey's, I got a call from the rep handling my order informing me that only one item in my order was in stock and would go out immediately, the rest would ship as soon as they had it. Also left her phone number and extension. Looks promising, time will tell.
I used them for my 281/288 conversion and had an excellent experience. Only negative so far, is they are on the west coast and I'm on the east and for anything they ship, I have to add a week to the delivery time. But with Jacks, the order might not get shipped for a week after they have it, at least I can contact someone at Bailey's if need be. I bet I spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone waiting to talk with someone at Jacks over their latest screw up.

We use Jack's a fair bit. Wish they were on the west coast though.

Their shipping department is "wtf" at times.

I ordered a few gaskets and the like, came in a huge box! (Like 2ftx2ftx2ft)
Could have fit in a SMALL flat rate.

They do ship USPS which is nice (ups shipping is $$$).
The "want it now" attitude many customers have makes it tough. Between figuring what a piece of OPE needs, ordering parts, waiting on the parts and fixing it, sometimes it's 3-4 weeks.
It's hard to know too, can be 4-5 days for parts or 4-5 weeks.

Like I'm waiting on a clutch bearing for a Jonsered 520. Ordered May 25, vendor (Amazon) says it might ship by June 10. So much for Prime 2 day!

Used to use Bailey's a bunch. They gave my bank card number away and it bought $2000 worth of stuff in England. I had to get a new bank account, redo a bunch of "auto pay" things, etc.
I found out MONTHS later from them (found out here first!).
Sorry, but can't trust an outfit like that! Why were they saving card numbers? I'm not even allowed to write customer card info down under the card processor agreement we have, never mind have a database that can be hacked into!

Do any of you asswipes have a local dealer?? On line dealers like jacks/baileys/partstree ect all suck
I went to my local dealer once for an OEM fuel line because I didn't want any chinese junk. Paid his price plus tax, plus a trip to get it.
Later, I removed the carburetor from the saw. When I pulled on the fuel line, it tore at the barbed fitting and was about the consistency of a Gummy Worm. Thought that was strange, and when I looked closer, in very fine print on the hose was the word Raisman. Don't think that is OEM, and I lost all faith in my local dealer right then. If someone robs me once, they probably won't get another chance.
As stated earlier, I bought all the parts for my 288 at Bailey's. Used them then because I had a 10% coupon. Ended up paying $179.99 for my OEM top end kit. Overall with the coupon, I saved a considerable bit of money and didn't have to drive anywhere to get anything.
There will always be people who can't work on their own equipment that will keep the local dealer afloat, but I'm not one of them. I just try to shop for the best deal at the time.

Several months ago I put into place a min labor rate (1/2 hr) on everything. That has helped get rid of "time wasters". The people that come down and basically expect work on their stuff for a few bucks. Some days it seemed like i worked my butt off all day and brought in maybe $40.

"I can't figure out how to put string in my trimmer" "how does this chain go on?", etc.

Or a clapped out saw, mower, etc is dropped off and they expect it to be made like new for $30.

I now own a 3600 watt gen set and Husky 288, neither wanted to put $150 into them, or even pay the 1/2 labor! They traded the junk for what they owed.
I'll fix them both and either use or sell.

Did that last year, Husqy lawn tractor with 120 hrs. Engine block was cracked.
I welded it, $60 in seals/gaskets and now it's an "off road" Hover - round for my friend's 79 year old Dad. Has the flat floor and hydrostatic so it's easy for him to use.

Most people have been fine with it, they understand.
Others... well... they'll need to find another sucker to bug all day.
