Put the tach to the JD 91, could not get anything over 4600 rpm out of it. Smoked like cuh-RAZY, too. Plug was coked up, likely from bar oil getting sucked into fuel charge when check valve ball was AWOL (I've since installed one, but not sure it's 100% effective). ANYWAY, I think I'll plug the crankcase port to oil reservoir and just use the manual oiler and call it a day. Unless I can scare up the proper check valve.
I've checked Acres' site and ran a search here but came up enmpty. Does anyone have the bar and chain on free rev spec for this saw?
Oh, yeah, tached the MS460, too - with dual port - it reved 14,600 with 28" B/C. High-side screw already at max rich, so I used the Freakingstang drywall screw technique to pull the limiter cap. Funny, the little limiting tit broke off flush on the way out, so I just poonched her back in and was done! Slicker-n-a-whistle! Now she's reving 13,500 with bounces to 13,600 -AND gets th eburble going on - I'm comortable with that. It now has it's 5th tank of fuel in it, I GOTTA get it in some wood! It's been a crap year for woodlot work.
Seeing the JD 91 on the shop floor beside the MS460 was funny, I tell ya.
