Does anyone know who makes the John Deere chainsaw? The local J.D. dealer has a very limited selection. If I could find out which company manufactors the saw I could probably find a wider variety. My wife likes her John Deere 44cc chainsaw because of the compression release which makes it easy to pull the stating cord but she wants a larger model.

And people called Poulan junk. They seem to be made by Homelite for 2 to 3 times the price.

JD/Efco

They are made by Efco in Italy. They also make Cub Cadet Commercial saws and string trimmers. Never used one, but heard good things about them.

I've examined the Efco Italian-made John Deere saws and to me they "looked" real nicely made and the price was good too. But I didn't run any of them and didn't buy one.

I Work At A John Deere Dealership And The John Deere Saws Are Definetly Made By Emak Out Of Florence Italy. Good Saws For Us Sor Far.

I have owned and worked on John Deere saws made by Remington and later by Echo. The current crop of John Deere saws are made by Emak (The parent Italian company of Efco, Tecomec, Olympic, Oleo-Mac). The Cub Cadet Professional saws being sold by Tractor Supply Co. are from the same factory, but are yellow instead of green. I did notice that the same models are priced lower at TSC. I haven't owned any of these saws but they appear to me to be of good quality and good value.

Thanks

Thank you to everyone who replied to my post. The next question is does that Italian company produce saws under another "brand" that is on the market?

the JD site is pretty bogus if you ask me. Compares their "pro series" saws w/ Stihl and Husky consumer saws. Their saws fare well in power:weight and $:HP comparisons w/ the orange saws, but that page cherry picks the stats.

Cub cadet commerical brand at TSC stores. Is the same as the J.D. they say.
