I just bought a JD cs81 off of ebay, the saw was made 12/05 so it is fairly new. My problem is the throttle is stuck! The linkage is not bent. The shaft coming from the carb is stuck! I can move it with a screw driver, but is moves really hard. ANyone ever had a carb jam up like that?

remove the carb and if still won't move easy, loosen the screw holding butter fly and adjust. will jam if not set correctly.

Hm, just a stab inna dark here, was there old gas in there? I am thinking maybe varnish buildup in the throat of da carb preventing toggling. Only a thot, I go now and await da slapping effect. :(

I don't have any suggestions...but I am interested to hear how you like the saw in some wood. In another thread I was thinking out loud about putting an Olympyk/EFCO 980/981 piston and cylinder on my 970 if I kept the saw long enough and needed to rebuild it.

It looks like me and you have the same idea! I am almost certain they are all the same. The 970 and 981 both share SOME parts as the 156 and 162 saws.
I have a cub cadet cs2056 that is the same as efco 156 or J/D cs56 guess what I am getting for it.....either a 162 cylinder kit or the new 165 kit.

Has anyone seen efco's new 165? I think it is the same as the famous 962/162 just with an even bigger jug on it. Does it still take small mnt husky bars?About the cs81.....what bar mount does this beast take? It looks like large mnt husky but an extra 1mm wider mounting slot. I put a 16" husky large and just filed it down to make it fit. Is this just john deere or does that go for the whole big emak group(970/971/981)
I know this....156/956 and up to 981 ALL take the same air filter. If you think the current filter sucks on them emaks then get the HD flocked filter that john deere sells. It scares me how fine silt always ends up in the throat of the carb of these emaks.

Oh and one more thing a efco 156/cub cadet cs2056 Will burn a husky 257 and a 359. very comparable to a husky 357...very comparable! All with 20" PM bars .375 50g 72dl full chisel. I wish I had video of that day. Efco earned 2 new customers that day!

I have an IPL for the EFCO(Olympyk) 970/980/971/981 and it looks like besides an obvious different piston and cylinder, the crank, carb, muffler, cylinder cover, air filter, air filter cover and intake adapter are different...not worth it to me...at least right now, unless I came across a cheap parts saw with salvagable engine parts.

Bailey's sells bars that will fit your 81 (at least for my 970). Here's some info that Grande Dog (Bailey's forum) sent me last year when I was looking for a 24" bar for the 970: http://www.arboristsite.com/showthread.php?t=31308&highlight=olympyk+970+bar

Thanks for that! You wouldn't happen to know a price and John Deere part number for the HD flocked filter?
