John Deere/ Echo similarities

As I have only been collecting for 2 years now my knowledge of the history of saws and manufacturers is small in comparison to the majority of many of the members of this site. What I have noticed from pictures of John Deere saws and that of some of the echos is that there are a lot of similarities in configuration. Such as fuel and bar oil tanks, fly wheel covers, etc. My question is who owned who, or did one manufacture for the other and when. Or am I just out of my skull, as many of my friends believe! :blob5:

Echo made some of Deeres saws, I even saw an 8000 on ebay in JD colors, looked right nice too. but Echo did make JD saws jsut rebadged em for awhile.
