I wonder what the difference between these two saws are??? Is the 2159 just a red 359? Is the 357XP a heavier-duty unit in some respect? Which one would be better suited to some woods modifications?

Thanks!

357/2159

Hello Slowtorque,
Two very good saws. they both use the same case, carbs ,. muffler and most case parts but the 357 has a full circle crankshaft and a different barrel and piston that is 1 mm smaller.
having recently modified both the 2159's and the 357 husky's i can tell you that even though the 357 it a bit smaller it comes out faster. the cutting times in a 8 by 8 cant and a 13 inch log were as follows
2159 jonsered, 8by8 cant 1. 84 seconds. 357 husky 1.46 seconds
13 inch log jonnyred 4.60 seconds, 357 husky, 3.40 seconds,
same bar and chain on both saws. now the jonsered is fast modified but the 357 is getting up into 372 and 385 times. I dont think the full circle crank is the reason for the faster times, but rather is because the 357 has a better porting arrangement.

Ken thanks for posting those times I've been thinking about picking up a saw for a companion for the 385 and I guess I now know what it will be...:D

Later Rob..

Ken,
If you say so I have to beleave it.All I can say is the more i run this 2159 the faster it gets..
If their is going to be a 357 that beats this 2159 Ken you better be the Builder.

2159 vs 357

Hello eric,
When you get that 2159 broken in it will probably will be real close to the 357. the two saws have completely different porting configurations and thats why the 357 comes out a bit faster. I'll have to send you one of my racing chains. that will put a different light on the times
