Good morning Guys,
I have been lurking in the shadows for a while now and reading tons of threads on this wonderful site! I have a Jonsered 2139T, 2152 and I am looking for a 65 - 70CC saw and have been going back and forth on the 2166 or 2165. I am aware of the differences and have reached out to a few saw shops. The guys selling new saws tell me to go with the 2166 of course but the guys that have older saws and are into custom work all say go with the 2165 and avoid the x-torque. So I guess I am looking for guys that have the x-torque saws: Do you guys have any issues with these saws and if so is there a way to fix them for good or is it something I am going to have to keep sending out to be over hauled and I should in the end just stay away from the x-torque?

Thank you in advance,
Glenn

Stay with the 2165. That way all of your saws will be the lower performance models. In turn, they will last longer, not be susceptible to lean burn down, not wear them selves out, and never have to be sent out for over haul. The 2153s and 2171s are too powerful and will wear out prematurely.

The bottom end of the 2165 and 2166 are identical. The cylinders and intake parts are where the difference resides. Either way, I would choose the 66 over the 65. You can grind the dividers from the transfer covers of the 66 and have the higher output of the 2172. The 2172 is rated as stronger than the 2171 in stock form. If I were porting a 2171 or 2172, I would choose the 72. But to get there with a 2165, you have to first replace the cylinder and then have it ported.

I would check with sponsor tlandrum. He's a J-red dealer and a top-notch builder. He is also sells his saws at a very good price.

This would be another excellent choice if you are sticking with a stock saw-

......

I assume you meant 2165 in the highlighted part of the quote.....

Both are good saws. I have the 2165 and a365xt(Husky version of the 2166). The 2165 is a little less powerful and a little lighter feeling. The 365xt stock has a little more power. My 365xt has had the restrictors removed and it has been ported. It is now noticeably stronger than the 2165.

My Husky dealer has the 365 with a 20" bar for $599, i asked why so cheap and he said "what do you mean thats what the list price is" umm ok.

So it sounds like you guys are saying that if I am going to leave the saw stock to go with the 2166 and I can do my xown little baffle mod and I will have a rather powerful saw. What about the difference between the x-torque and the non extorque? Are the non xtorque known to be more reliable?

Thanks,
Glenn

While I am from the younger generation and am of course tech savey I am not sure I always want the latest and greatest when it comes to chainsaws... The main reason I posted this on here was really only because I had heard from some of the used chainsaw shops that the xtorque saws had some kind of plastic something in them that caused issues. Had it not been for there warning I would not have thought twice about it and just gone with the 2166. I can get a new 2166 for $400.00 with bar from a gentleman that got one as a gift and wants to use the money on his Stihl collection.

Thanks,
Glenn

I will be in touch about doing some things to the saw but I am not sure I can afford a port job at the moment. Did these come with a cat muffler?

Thanks,
Glenn

Excellent. What would I be looking at for a port job on that saw? Also looking for the Jonsered (Total) bar in 18" length for use on the 2166 and a 2152 that I have with shipping to 17563.

Thanks again,
Glenn

Well Cobey, be glad you did not jump on that 2166. It has been one HUGE mess and turned out to be a scam by a man of the name Ryan Ealy (Centralia, MO). Anyway the police are involved now and he has a rap sheet a block or two long. Just a mess.
