hello guys. Having a problems and could use some advice.
I am working on a Jonsered 2172 saw year 2102. Was sucking air bad on PTO side. split the case as crank bearing, so i thought, was bad. Come to find out, the recess on the case where the bearing went in was worn out so bad the bearing moved side to side. Case was toast. So i did not have a 2172 case, so i figured i would put on a 372xp case. after i got all together and seated the cylinder with piston, could not even turn over saw. went to remove cylinder and basically had to pry cylinder off piston. totally destroyed piston. Got another new piston and a different cylinder, and made sure piston slide in and out cylinder freely before installing on saw. All was good. installed on saw, torqued cylinder down, same thing. locked up solid. tryed removing cylinder, and again basically had to pry off and destroyed another piston. After finally removing cylinder, got another new piston (#3) and tryed to see if is moved freely in and out of cylinders previous used without installing on saw and no way was the piston going into the cylinder even without rings. Got another cylinder(#3) and made sure piston slid freely and it did, so i installed on saw, but did not tighten screws on PTO side (with 372xp) all the way. i ran them down until they started to get tight, and checked to see if saw would turn over. Saw did turn over but was tight, tightened screw a smidgen more and locked. What is going on. I heard from somewhere that the xtorq 372xp cases are a little different than the traditional non xtorq 372 cases. Could this be my problem? Now seems like all 3 cylinders are toast and as are the pistons. please help. And yes,, i am a sucker for punishment as it took me three tries before i called it quits. Yes, all cylinders were xtorq saws with xtorq pistons.
