I finally got to messing with this saw and have a few questions.
It's a Jonsered 36, also known as Husky 35, Skil 1614, and many others, little bitty thing made in Canada. I got it on ebay for $30 a while back, and found it had pinholes in the gas tank and some light scuffing in the cylinder.
Turns out the screws that hold the tank cover on go all the way thru the case and hold the halves together as well so before i knew it, I had the whole thing apart! Not only that, but the big end rod bearing is not caged, the rollers just sit in their recess in the crank and the rod goes directly on them. You can probably imagine what happens next and what I have to say about it.
Anyhow, once I picked them all up off the floor and cleaned them off, I got to wondering- How the heck am I supposed to get this all back together? Can I use some sort of grease to hold them in place while I get the rod over them?
Also, where do I find parts for this saw? They were made by Trail Mfg. or Quadra Mfg. but I can't find any info for them.

Thanks,
George

Darn George, I sold one of those (skil) a while back that had a bad coil.

The engine was like new. I think I got $9 for it on ebay.

I believe they were also sold by frontier. i have seen the huskies & jons that look just like it.

Mike, wish I caught that one. Also, Wak110 sold one for a penny not too long ago. Guess I gotta be more vigilant, but sometimes I just get tired of the Ebay thing.
Sedanman, thanks. I figured that was probably the way, but wasn't sure it was ok to use grease in a 2-cycle crankcase. This is my first time inside one. Seems like a good first chainsaw project. Worst part is these parts are so tiny and my fingers are so big.
I suppose I should replace at least the seals if not the bearings as well, but don't know where to look for spares. I can probably turn up bearings thru regular bearing sources, but seals? Should I try Tilton, maybe?
Also, what should I use to reassemble the case halves? Does that old indian head glue work? That's what I used on VW cases, but they have a larger mating area.
Thanks,
George

Well, I managed to get parts thru a Husky dealer and got her all put back together. The JBweld worked great on the gas tank, and a little emery cloth smoothed out the cylinder walls. New side bearings+seals, big end rollers, and oh yes, paint.
Do not attempt to adjust your screen.

I'd use a little grease to reaasemble the bearings, and then rinse with gasoline when done. I doubt a bit of grease will her the saw, especially if you let it idle through the first tank of gas. I've had two crankcases apart and anaerobic sealer works very well to seal it all up. RTV sealer will fall apart so don't even try.
