I picked this Jonsered 450 saw up for 50.00.The saw starts runs for a second and dies.I changed the plug checked air filter.Still does the same thing . It looks like the carb adjusting screws have been messed with . I think this might be the problem. Does anybody know a good starting point for the screws to be adjusted at. Or any Ideas for me to start at.Oh and one more thing a place to find engine specs at on the web. The help would be appreciated. Thanks

Seat them first

1. New Plug
2. New Gas
3. Seat your l/h screws (all the way to the right), and come out 1 full rotation. (that's a good starting point to get her going)
4. Clean your air filter

If it still shuts off immediately, pull your muffler, check for bad scoring on the piston. And please check the impulse line and fuel line. (impulse runs from the crankcase into the side of the carb, and the fuel line from the tank to the carb.) Since those are the easiest and cheapest starting points, give em a shot. write with the results.

Thanks guys Ill check all that out tonight .See what i can come up with.

99% of the time its a gaulded cylinder which means your piston has transfered aluminum to the cylinder wall, when the aluminum on the wall gets hot it expands pushing the ring inward and losing compression. If it were me I would pull the muffler first.
