View attachment 302349View attachment 302350View attachment 302351I have a chance to buy a Jonsered 451ev for pretty cheap. It does have a broken on/off switch but I found one online for $10 if its still there. I haven't checked it out yet so what should I look for? If I get the switch before I check it out I will put it in and see if it will start. If not what could I do? Guy wants $60 for it. Let me know.

I wonder if the heated handle switch could be swapped with the ignition switch? That's a cool saw, if its a runner and the handles heat I'd be a happy camper :D

Nice saw, just rebuild one myself. Also replace the original choke rod. Dan at sawagain.com has both, switch and rod. Ignition switch is easy to replace/install. Switch for the heated handle bars is a separate switch behind the starter handle. Install a new carb kit, it's an old saw. Check the AV buffers for cracks, these are a weak spot, especially the one on the right side of the saw. If it runs well, you have a very decent and well built saw. I think one of the most solid saws ever built in 40 cc class, although a bit heavy. But it's a strong runner.

451E and EV versions are pro saws all the way.......and very expensive in the day......designed as a high speed limbing saw.....you'll notice that is no provision to bolt dogs/spikes to those cases....not an oversight.

There are two or three different ignition systems that could be on that saw...all are NLA.....except by chance at places like Sawagain etc. So if you have problems with it make sure which one it has. The heated handle switch is near impossible to find anywhere and is a special switch so not easily replaced with something different. If yours works....take very good care of it. I have several of these saws and work on a couple more for others who love them.....one has a broken heater switch...stuck on.......gets real hot in the summer just tuning it up and doing a few test cuts.....not a problem in cold weather...

I also notice that the saw in the pics is the special version that came set up for the Nordfeller attachment....nice saw......$60.00 is a fair price...considering it needs a switch and choke pull....

What is a Nordfeller attachment?

Well.....I have never seen one...only pics and vids......it is an expanding wedge used for felling trees. There is a tapped and plugged hole opposite your sparkplug...that is where the ridged plumbing started...went out the left front of the saw and around to the recoil cover...see the two holes in the cover?.......this is where the valve and quick connect were attached......attached to the quick connect was 4-5 feet oh hose with an expandable wedge......cut a slot in the back cut ...insert the collapsed wedge....open the valve.......spool the saw up and jack the tree over. I think if you search "Nordfeller" on u-tube there are some vids showing how they work.

Jonsereds saws set up for this had a different top cover (raised place down the center) and recoil cover (hole/slot in the front for the metal line and holes for the valve)

The only saws that I have seen factory set up for this were the 541E/EV and the 70E...there may have been others but those are the only ones I've seen......

Good friend of mine has two of them. Cut a lot of firewood over the years!!

Take the carb cover off disconnect the wire n see if u r getting spark n yes you should do it with the spark plug out n grounded. Make an offer of 30.00 bucks because it seems to me there’s a reason why the switch is broke. But I used a husqvarna switch n drilled out the old hole. N it worked fine.
