I believe the 70e and 66e were made at the same time. Sawtroll once told me that the only way to tell a 66e from an early 70e was to pull the muffler. You can either measure the bore or else I think the 66 had to rings and the 70e had one ring. A lot of 66e's were rebuilt with 70e piston and cylinders turning them into 70e's. How is the plastic fan on the flywheel? Does it have spark? The contacts under the recoil cover can cause no spark even if they look good. I hit mine with a little Emory cloth to restore spark. Great old saws!
I have the serial #now 694753 What does that tell you?I'm more familiar with the older J'reds.
Having said that, the serial numbers I'm aware of for the 66E include: 1506413 and 1507504. If it's between these it should be a 66E. Latest 49sp I'm aware of is 1459065 and earliest 70E I know of is 1511251, so it should be somewhere in between these two, assuming the 49sp and 70E weren't produced at the same time as the 66E. There are several folks more knowledgeable on this generation of Jonsereds that will likely chime in.

Looks like a model 52 or 52E. Find the letter that's cast into the side just in front of serial number tag, then use this chart.

Here are some pictures of what I think is a 66E. Thanks

Had the recoil cover off while checking it out and it has an electronic coil. Guess that answers the question on what it it. Thanks for all the help.Nope......not a 66E or 70E.....what you have is a 52 or 52E......only way to find the difference besides pulling the flywheel is to remove the recoil cover and post a pic of the spark coil that is inside...then I can tell you which it is......52 has a points ign...52E has electronic.....coils are different.
