I have the opportunity to buy a Jonsered 70E from the 80's that's said to be in good shape, with a new bar and extra chain for a little over $100

Provided that it is in good shape, is this as good of a deal as I think it is?

Does anyone have specs for this saw, rated HP, etc???

Does the saw have any anti-vibe? What about a chain brake?

I think that the 70e is about 70cc. Its comparable in power to an 044.. I know I wouldn't pass on an 044 for around a 100 bucks, even if it needed lots of help, so If you like Jonsered, I think its a deal. 044 is a bad example, 10+ year newer saw that holds a higher resale value. 038 might be a better example, but I wouldn't pass on an 038 for that price either.

Sawtroll, why don't you post some advise for the guy thinking of buying the Jonsered.

My experience with Jonsered from that era is the 49SP. Love that saw. If the 70E is anything similar, I'd jump on it for $100. If it is in decent shape and you decide not to, let me know. I'm interested.

Here is a link to get info on the 70E http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf/ed1d619968136da688256af40002b8f7/746133cbe7c59df388256d0a00051cc7?OpenDocument I think it is a great saw although there have been a number of the early models with the SEMS ignition module that goes bad. A chain brake was optional equipment for these saws. I have one on mine and my father's 70E does not. They are easily added by removing the clutch cover, then 1 screw and plate if found on your model, then just sliding the assembly into position and attaching it with 2 screws.

I just picked up a 70e and am looking for tuning tips. It will start and run for a few seconds when I pour fuel straight into the carb but thats as far as I get. Im hoping to avoid pulling the carb but...i know it might be necessary. All advise is appreciated , thanks
