Wasn't all that bad really, considering the availability;

The top cover is in nice shape, doesn't look like it was ever used. No stickers or scratches, a beautiful silvery color. $60
Recoil starter was $28, Flywheel was $40, Carb was $30

You stole the carb unless it has throttle shaft play and/or ethanol damage....decent price for flywheel. Cover was very fair considering the availability and condition....good price on starter assembly.

Sweet....did you get the thrust washers and 52 wristpin bearing too??

Yes I did, with one of the pistons I bought. I'm guessing you asked me that because they're different than the 49sp trust washers and bearing?

Actually bought a cylinder, piston, washer and bearing set.
Then from another source bought just a piston without he washer and bearing.
All 52e parts.

Finally getting into my two 90's. I'll get some pics up as I start getting it cleaned up. Was wondering if any of you guys have ab IPL for it?

Yeah, pretty sure I do. I think one of the parts places like jackssmallengines has them in pdf too.....or maybe it was sawagain. That's how I got the IPL for my 910. But if I have an IPL for the 90, it's the real hardcopy. Let me know if you want me to scan it for you.

*Just checked...have the 90 IPL hardcopy

Can anyone tell me what other saws if any use the same recoil cover as a 2186/2188?
I have looked at a few different IPL's but have not been able to find out.

Thanks, Brian

Yes they are different......the 49 has a narrower bearing an no thrust washers....just relies on the wristpin bosses castings being close enough together to keep the con rod more or less centered in the crank pin journal.....49 is pretty sloppy.. like 0.030" not uncommon.....52 has a wider bearing and washers and the bosses are machined parallel ....down to 0.010-0.015 or so....

49SP was a price point saw...though the same cases and covers as the other 50 series (other than paint color) they economized in the P&C and ign/flywheel/ coil to bring the price down from that of the 52/52E. When I bought my original 49SP new in 1978 I paid $249.95 plus tax......52 was $275.00 and the 52E was $300.00...pretty good spread in 1978 dollars....Of course I wanted the 621 badly but that was way beyond my reach at $350.00......to kind of put it all in perspective.....a 10-10 Pro Mac sold new for $179.95 then...spendy them red saws were...even back then.....but worth every penny.....mine is still in use..
