Was replacing the fuel line and then discovered another hose the comes out of the top of the fuel tank goes under the carb. and looks like it should go into a hole towards the engine. What does it do and where does it go for sure? I can not see anyplace to connect it to. Is there somewhere on the web where there is pictures of the saw that shows all the parts?

You must be talking about the tank vent. I cant find a ipl or part diagram on the 49, if its like a stihl (and I dont know that it is) dont hook it to anything, just leave it.

Its your tank vent,have a hole in the side of the cr/case to exit close to the sprocket.At the end of the tube,you should find a brass ball to keep the fuel to come out too easily from the tank.

As was said, it is a tank vent. Just make sure it is routed properly and not pinched off and you will be good to go.
