The old Mac SP125 showed up today. 2 days and most of the way across the country. I'm impressed, but now the Postal guys have set the bar too high.

Anyway, my first glance in the dark with a flashlight: 1) The compression release isn't a button. It's a lever like my Homelite 2100. 2) The muffler cover (I think) is held on by a hose clamp. This is something that will have to be remedied, pronto. 3) ID tag under the airfilter cover shows it to be a 600076D, an SP125. 4) Has pretty good compression. 5) The bar is just an old 36" Oregon hardnose

I'll get some pics up tomorrow, and look it over some more.

Pics will be here soon enough. Couple more things, the model# is 600076D. And...it has a 4 shoe clutch.

This saw has what is said to be a cart exhaust. There is no baffle at all. Even with the 'screen' in place, I can see the piston clearly.

Lots of little odd things. More tomorrow.

Examined the 125 some more. First, looks like a chrome liner. But I'll live. Every other saw I have is chrome, so I can deal with it.

Two, there is no way the seller ever had this saw running. Impulse line was unhooked, and the carb was way out of adjustment. Good thing is, I got it running in a few minutes. May need carb work. Bad news, looks like a Mac carb SDC??? I may have a Tilly HS off a chop saw that'll work.

Later, Chris

that carb is a Walbro SDC, some have the Mcc logo and some dont. they make a fine carb. they also came with Tillotson HS124A/B carbs. both look VERY similar. some of those tillotsons have fixed high speed jets, i recently got a NOS Tillotson HS124A in an orig Mcculloch box.. it was that fixed jet one.. but the many mac 125C saws i used to have had fully adjustable 124A's
so that can be a gamble. i would rebuild that Walbro SDC and run it.

Dedcow Yeah, I figured that out. Thank god for it. The saw seems to start pretty reliably. So, I can rule out any major problems. Looks like the basic stuff: filter, 1 or 2 missing screws, bottom vibe mount, gas cap.

When I tried to start it a little while ago, the case had filled up with gas. Carb lever was set way too high. That $5 Walbro gauge was the best money I ever spent.

I love these old machines, nothing like em. I think you've got a CP125 if you've got a chrome lining, but hey, its still a BIG saw, so its not a big deal, as long as it runs and looks good doing what it does.

Well it's still up in the air about the chrome liners and iron ones.My Sp125 has an iron liner,my Sp 125C had a chrome one until I turned and pressed in an iron one.Macdaddy said he has seen both the cp's and sp's with chrome and iron,so I guess it's just a crap shoot,so to speak, hmm. Now that Mac flatback carb,I truely despise. On that note, however,I have a 250 with one that after I figured out how to tune it, runs pretty good. The fixed jet Tilley hs is also a giant pain in the back side.Whomever designed that should have their head examined. If you change it over, use the large venturi carb,'cause that's a lot of engine for a smaller one.I have an sp 105 that came with a fixed jet.I think I could have out cut it with an xl-12,then.I changed it to a full adjustable hl,from a 125 .Now it's a different story. :)

Al,

How'd you get an HL under that cover? Do mean a fully-adj HS? My carb is a Walbro with Mac logos on it. I'd say the venturi is pretty big.

Chris B.
That was indeed a typo on my part,HS ,it is.I was referring to a larger venturi hs.They all look the same, but they aren't.I have a larger venturi hs on a 6-10 that has been "tweeked" a tad, runs great.

Chris I also think I found you a chain break for a 084 i will pm you about it this weekend

At MacDaddy's insistence I checked the cylinder liner again. It is iron and NOT chrome. My little magnet stuck to it and I could see the thickness of the sleeve in the transfer ports.
