Yes, as I said, the fs36 series were made by IDC {fs36,40,44}.

The old fs-80 was one great trimmer, similar to the shindaiwa t-25, made much
better than its modern counterpart.

I got a chance to use the FS-45 this weekend. It really vibrates a ton, but overall it did a good job. I hope it lasts a while, I wish I would have known it was a rebadged Ryobi, they had those on sale at northern tool for $49, I hate it when big corporations screw customers to make a buck.

Dont worry BV with your Ryobi. Someday you will move up to the Poulan lol. I thought it was funny when I first seen your post because you buy the MS440 saw(which I'd give a gonad for) and dont check into it deeper before you bought the little ryobi weedeater. Lesson learned eh.

Touche' Yeah, I needed a weedeater and figured I would be served well to buy the "homeowner" line of stihl. But I just got screwed. If it helps I do feel like an idiot.

I got a FS 75 for $5 in a yard sale. Guy said it did not run. New fuel lines and cleanup and she started on the third pull. Has been going strong for me for 4 years now. If it ever dies I will go with one of the new 4-mix trimmers.

Ryobi?

Since when is the CURRENT 45,55 series of trimmer made by Ryobi? The old 36,44 may have been, but you will have to prove the current model is.
I run a 55 myself, and find it to be all I need.

I used to run the FS85, I liked it, decent machine but my husky 323L feels lighter for some reason. might just be me, but I like the husky better.

Husky 323 is probally the best little trimmer around. Got the power to do big stuff but still light enough to use without a harness. If you can get a streight shaft one its even better (323R). Still a fan of the bigger STIHL trimmers FS450 is a beast although like the Husky 345Rx more.

Fs 80

I've used the heck out of my FS-80 for about 6 years now. Great trimmer. to confirm, it is a cable shaft, but straight and strong...(no comment). When I was younger and did not know better, i put a saw blade attachment on it and cut through several 3-4" privot hedge trunks...not the smartest, but hey, still running strong. I've also opened up the muffler considerably, and I must say, it's a screamer.

 Sorry, I just reread the source of my "Ryobi" statement, and found that it was about the older models (FS36 etc).
The FS38 is still vibrating badly though, regardless who made it.
