this was on a lil patch of timber i cut a week or so ago..fencerow job..in and out in 2 days=33000 bft. had to swing a bunch of, pull & push them to keep them out of the surrounding cornfields.
well anyway these are a few pics of a big cottonwood that i cut. ported 066BB w/ 36" Oregon powermatch...full comp(forgot to order skip when i got the chain-doh!!(took me 3 beers to sharpen it the other day-along with all the other things i was doing) tree had the top broken out of it-part of which was still hung up in another tree 25ft over my head. didn't measure it across the stump(at the cut) but im guessing somewhere in the neighborhood of 65", cut it off 6 ft up due to it being rotten in the bottom and it was 55"@6ft. 30 ft later it was 38". hope u guys enjoy!!

575 in the background was there for moral support!!!! 575=HEDGEPRUNER!!!

cut one right after that that was right at 4ft dbh..but was taller and alot greener. i cut off a big limb knot off of it and went and swapped my bars back to a 24" and went on down the fencerow and kept cutting...came back by an hour later and i had cut right thru a HONEY BEE'S NEST!!! they didn't come out when i had to saw in there but when i came back thru they sure weren't very happy...waited till the next morning when it was in the 40's to cut the log off(colder weather the bees weren't as active) man o man i've been hammered by them things before!! got hit 13 times in the head one day after i cut down a bee tree!! good thing im not allergic to them

yea...i got me a 4ft-4" white oak limb by the 'puter for beating back the ppe Nazi's!!!! they run there saws and i'll run mine!!

Cottonwood

What's cottonwood?? Is it hard or soft wood??? What's it comparable to as far as wood around here goes???

I don't/won't wear chaps either dude, lmao...

Nice pics.
How is the DN 66 running now, did you get the carb problem straightened out?
What guage chain are you running?

well technically cottonwood is a hardwood(as in not a pine) but around here it is considered a softwood because it is softer than all the other hardwoods around here-confused yet? around here it will grow in very wet sites or on old stripmine ground. basically if the soil is sh*t then cottonwood with grow there. the trees get pretty big and grow tall (100 ft+) ive cut some of them that were 3-4ft dbh and cut logs that were 90 ft. long. as for the wood it is not desirable. they will use them to make mine mats or pallet boards

the saw is running good..i thought i was chasing a carb issue but some to find out it was the coil gap. i rebuilt the carb, adjusted tweaked, yada yada yada. and one day-when i was highly irrate-i decided that one just about the only thing that i hadn't done. pulled the recoil off and put the ole business card to it and it ran fine. the 36" bar is .063 gauge. my shorter bars are .050

Nice pics taken on a nice day. Thanks for posting them. 3 weeks ago we were hitting low 90's and now mid 50's. It won't be too long now.......

yea that was a nice day..it had been fairly cold that morning (40) but warmed up a tad after lunch(when the pic was taken) but it was still windy as all h*ll!! and a few days after that it got back into the 90's and now it is back down again

Thanks for posting the pics. That big wood looks like alot of work, better you than me! LOL

ahhh...i love cutting the big'uns..but yes they are alot of work...this one was actually quite easy since the top was busted out of it...cut off a couple limb knots and lop it off. the big bushy ones are the ones that are alot of work, for example: this one took 4 tanks of fuel thru the 660, but i cut 6 logs out of it

Wish I was closer to you.... I would load up and haul off those bees for you....bees are my second sideline gig after portable milling....neither makes me much money, but I enjoy both.... You could probably locate a beekeeper in your area who would take care of them for you.
Awsome pictures.....That one looks like the two guys are pissing on the log:D
