ARRRRGH, Now the saga continues. First off new piston and ring, 160lbs compression. Carb has new complete kit in it. Fire so hot it set the gases coming out of the cylinder on fire.... nearly lost some hair there, checked the flywheel key not sheared timing looks to be correct and this is all it will do????? See video. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Check if your impulse hole is sucking in and out.Maybe your base gasket i installed the wrong way or the intake gasket.Check if the plastic block pulse hole is not blocked too.And the new piston, does it have window each side? You need it if you have the original closed port cyl.

Yep check the impulse...did you use any type of sealer on the cyl base gasket??? If so it could have squeezed into the impulse hole and closed it off. As Hioctane said too, perhaps the gasket got flipped...other than that somethings amiss in the carb..either a maladjusted metering lever or gasket or diaphrams in the wrong order.........when you rebuilt the carb did you pull the welch plugs?? Needles should be 1 to 1 1/4 turns out off the seats for startup..if everything is right should require a very slight tuning from there to be perfect......

Why the new piston???? If the old one was scored...you may have a massive air/vac leak. Crank seals can be an issue but on these saws, there is also a large o ring that seals the oil pump to the case if that has crapped out you can suck a lot of air there. The crank seal is in the oil pump housing so it might seem like a seal issue but not be. Quickest way to chase air leaks down is a pressure/vac test. The earlier question about windows in the piston applies as well. You need the windowed piston for the closed port 630....but the piston from a 61 Husky or 625 will fit right in but has no windows and won't work. Just thinking of possibilities and problems that can occur...let us know what you find...

Ding Ding Ding Ding!!!! The winners are HiOctane and Cantdog. I had a friend helping when the saw was put back together, (had to step away to answer a call) and sure enough no windows in the replacement piston.. So I guess I get the ******* of the year award :jester:. Called Baileys and all I can say is WOW!!!! What customer service. They did not have the correct piston but the tech found one online for me while I was on the phone and he credited me immediately for the wrong one and told me to keep it and hang it on the wall. Bailey's will definately be my first choice on anything they handle from now on!!! They Rock! As for the saw I cleaned up the original piston put a new ring on it and the saw starts and runs fine now. I am going to order the other piston but as of now the saw is running and running well. A big thanks to everyone on here for all the advice also

Excellent.....glad you've turned this around...those 630s are a very nice saw....just so you know... you are not the first to make this mistake..there has been several folks try this over the last few yrs. The other thing is that the windowed piston will work in the open port motors but not the other way around!!!

I resemble that remark. Same thing happened when I got a piston for the 61 that I had. Never paid attention. Baileys got me the right one and told me to keep the other one. Never thought of that happening to you until Cantdog mentioned it. Then, it all came back to me. Glad you got it figured out!!

Glad you got her fixed!!! Great saw will cut you a lot of wood. Also upgradable to 272XP if you need/want more power. Not too bad of a swap just have to use 272 intake system to go along w/cyl.

Try unhooking switch first and check for spark.Still no spark ? Then the big black module should be the problem, usually at 95 %.The one piece wont fit on your saw, case being different as well the flywheel and the crank keway too_On the one piece ignition, the key is molded on the flywheel itself and has a different shape, more roundish.

Almost off topic (?) but I didn't want to get flamed for not searching and this is the closest I found.
I've got a 930 with no spark. I disconnected the on/off switch and still no spark. Is the "big black module" the one under the flywheel or the one that's topside ? My upper module is blue.
Is there a way to test these parts or better to just replace ?
